What is Forest School?

Originating from Scandinavia, forest school uses the woodland setting as both a classroom and a playground.

The child-led philosophy encourages children to be resilient, independent and confident learners. Research has shown that spending time outdoors has a positive effect on children’s mental health, too: children tend to have better focus and are less anxious if they spend more time in nature.

The increase in outdoor activity also has a positive physical impact. They are physically stronger, more agile and sleep better at night. Additionally, outdoor play develops children's balance, climbing and sensory skills.

If you’re keen for your child to grow in confidence, resilience, and develop a lifelong love of the outdoors, forest school is a brilliant option!

What do we do in a Stay & Play session?

Our sessions are child-led and so participation in the different activities is optional.

You can explore the woods at your own pace, play in the mud kitchen, read a book, count pinecones, swing in the hammocks and look up at the trees, play with the gutter-run rolling golf balls down them, take part in a craft activity, play on a swing or slide, hunt for bugs, sit in the bird hide to see what you can spot, hunt for fairies in Fairy Hollow, sit quietly and chill out, eat a yummy campfire treat, sing some songs by the fire, make some music, meet a hen, observe the wildlife pond and so much more!

Get in touch to find out more and to book.
